A thermal printer prints an image by heating the surface of coated thermal paper at a specific temperature. The printer transmits an electrical current to the heating components of the thermal print head, which then generates heat. The thermal paper is then passed over the thermal head that selectively heats specific areas of the paper surface. The thermal paper coating becomes black in the parts where it is heated, thereby producing the image. There are cases where two-color thermal printers can print black and one other color - often red - by applying heat at different temperatures.
