An I/O Hub, or IOH, is an Intel chipset design, codenamed X58 or Tylersburg, designed to connect multiple processors using an Intel Quickpath Interconnect, or QPI. It has no integrated memory controllers, since its supported processors are specially designed to have their own memory. Similar to AMD?s HyperTransport architecture, an IOH is typically analogous to a traditional northbridge in that it communicates with the processor using a high-bandwidth pathway, with the southbridge using DMI, and with peripherals using PCI-Express.
