The GeForce 500 Series is a family of graphics processing units developed by Nvidia, based on a refresh of the Fermi architecture (GF-codenamed chips) used in the previous 400 series. Nvidia officially announced the GeForce 500 series on 9 November 2010 with the launch of the GeForce GTX 580. Its direct competition was AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series.
