Description:

NVIDIA GeForce3 features a 256-bit graphics core, which allows it to render complex polygons on screen instead of just triangles, unlike many of its predecessors. The card also sports a 128-bit DDR memory interface, along with memory bandwidth of 7.36 GB/sec. These resources allow the device to offer a Texture Fill Rate of 3.2 billion anti-aliasing (AA) samples/sec. All in all, the card is capable of carrying out as many as 800 billion operations every second. The card supports both programmable Vertex Shaders, and Pixel Shaders. These allow display of detailed 3D textures on screen, like the ones seen on surfaces made of wood, marble, etc.

The graphics card has been designed according to the Lightspeed Memory Architecture and nFiniteFX engine, both developed by NVIDIA. Lightspeed Memory Architecture allows game developers to build complex, 3D curved surfaces in applications, which would not be possible using only triangles. The nFiniteFX engine, on the other hand, allows programmers to develop a whole gamut of special effects for their graphical applications. Pixel Shaders, one of the various classes of graphical elements included in the engine, are utilized by developers of games and animated movies to influence the properties of every single pixel being displayed on the monitor at any given moment.
