A modem is a device used to send and receive data from a sender to a receiver over a regular telephone line. The term modem comes from a combination of ?Mo?, or modulator , and ?Dem?, or Demodulator. The modulator end is where the data is sent by turning the information into a signal that can travel through the telephone line. At the other end, the signal is demodulated, which means it is turned from a form that travels through the phone line back into the form that the computer recognizes. It can either be printed straight into a paper document or saved as a digital file on the computer?s hard drive that can be read, viewed, or printed eventually.
