The CX11261 SmartHSF4 V.92/V.90 PCI Modem with SmartDAA 4 is a software modem from Conexant. Thus it consumes far less power than traditional hardware modems and is smaller in size as well. Because of these reasons, such modems are mostly used in laptops and other portable computing devices. This modem is powered by the SmartDAA technology from Conexant, and can interface with PSTN lines all over the world. It can receive and transmit data over telephone lines at 56 and 38 Kbps respectively in V.92 mode and can error correction features to ensure accurate performance. The product is also a fax modem that can send data to and receive data from fax machines at speeds of 14.4 Kbps.

Like other software modems, this product too contains minimum hardware, and depends on the resources of the computer it is installed in to perform various tasks. This includes harnessing both processing power (the CPU) as well as memory (RAM) of the computer. There are quite a few advantages of this type of modems, making them ideal for portable devices.
