The Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 5-Port PCI Card is a PCI to USB 2.0 Card that adds five extra USB 2.0 ports to a computer; four of them external and one internal. The internal port can be used for attaching peripherals that need to be semi-permanently mounted on your computer e.g. Bluetooth adapters. Even though all five ports are USB 2.0, the product is backwards compatible, which means they can be used to connect USB 1.1 devices too. The device can reach data transfer speed of 480 MBps, and supports as many as 127 Hi-speed and 254 Full/Low-speed devices through its 5 ports.

The device features USB 2.0 technology, which was first released in 2000, two years after the release of USB 1.1. However, it represented a large leap forward as the bandwidth provided is 40 times greater than the previous version, meaning it can transfer a large amount of files from a variety of USB 2.0 devices like digital cameras, pen drives and MP3 players very quickly and without any risk of overloading or choking the computer. However, in order to achieve the maximum possible speed, the USB 2.0 standard specifies that the cable connecting the device has to be shorter than 5 meters in length.
