Description:

The SCR3320 Dongle Reader from SCM Microsystems (now Identive Infrastructure) is a small smart card reader that can read ISO 7816 compliant smart cards. It takes full advantage of the USB port, offering up to 12 Mb/sec data transfer speeds and has an insertion limit of about 50,000. Weighing only 12 grams, it is no larger or heavier than a standard USB thumb drive, making it highly portable. The operating temperature of the product is between zero to 50 degrees centigrade, keeping it operational in almost all except the most extreme environments. A green, dual state LED on the device serves as a performance indicator.

The product can read smart cards, commonly known as chip cards or ICC (Integrated Circuit Cards). Smart cards contain embedded integrated circuits and are generally made up of polyvinyl chlorides as well as polycarbonates. There are two types of smart cards ? Memory cards and MPU/CPU cards. Most contact cards conform to ISO 7816 International Standards. Smart card readers have electrical contacts located on their outer side. A smart card reader serves as a medium of contact between the contact card and the host, which is usually a PC, a POS (point of sale) terminal or even a wireless mobile device (cell phone).
