Description:

The SigmaTel USB-IrDA Dongle is a wireless USB to IrDA data transfer adapter that allows users to enjoy high speed data exchange. The device maintains data transfer rates of up to a maximum of 4 Mb/sec even when the host devices are in standby mode. The adapter uses a single USB Type A connector that enables data communication via IrDA technology. It supports Fast Infrared mode and can achieve a maximum data transfer rate of 4 Mb/sec, which also happens to be the maximum speed attainable by the adapter. The wireless data exchange speed in Mid Infrared mode is ranged between 576 Kb/sec and 1152 Kb/sec, while in serial infrared mode the speed of the dongle ranges between 2.4 Kb/sec to 115.2 Kb/sec.

This easy-to-use dongle meets all the specifications required for Infrared Data Association (IrDA) compliance. The USB adapter has inbuilt IrDA transceivers which efficiently communicate with signals or infrared samples within a cone which has an off center, half angle of 15 degrees. As a result, the adapter has a viewing or reception arc of thirty degree (approximately). The minimum irradiance of the device is maintained such that signal visibility is attained up to one meter. The maximum irradiance attained by the adapter does not overwhelm a receiver placed at close distance. The average operational range of this adapter, therefore, is close to 0.6 meters.
