Description:

The RTL8201CL chip is a single-port PHY-ceiver, or Physical transceiver, with a Media Independent Interface, or MII and Serial Network Interface or SNI. It can be used for a variety of applications such as those demanding a Network Interface Adapter, an Ethernet hub, or an Ethernet switch. This chip uses a highly-developed complementary metal oxide semiconductor process to satisfy low power requirements. Using Digital Signal Processing, or DSP, technology, this chip provides users with a stable, high level of performance under even the most demanding operating conditions.

Ethernet is a communications protocol in hardware and software intended for networking. Two or more computers with network interface cards can be linked together with Ethernet cables that are all centrally connected to a hub. This hub acts a relay in receiving and sending data to and from the computers in the network. Ethernet networks can also be wireless. Wireless networks allow more mobility but require extra security measures since it can be accessed by devices and computers that are not really part of the set network.
