The SpeedTouch 330 is a basic ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) modem that allows users to connect to the internet via a hi-speed USB port. The device supports plug and play technology, which means that it can be used on a Microsoft Windows computer without specialised software. Thus, no technical knowledge is required to configure the modem to work with the computer. As mentioned earlier, this is a basic modem and has only one RJ11 port to connect it to a WAN (in addition to the USB 1.1 port), so it is not possible to hook it up to a router for wireless networking.

This modem supports ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology, which allows data to be transmitted through conventional copper wires at speeds much higher than what typical voice modems would allow. This is accomplished by using frequencies that are not used by voice communication. With the help of a splitter, the same connection can be used to transmit voice as well as digital data at the same time. While ADSL communication is full duplex in most cases, this technology provides much higher downstream speeds than upstream, and is thus better suited for home use, rather than for businesses that provide services through the internet.
