Available in the form of chipsets (for OEM manufacturers) and add-in card (for users), the VIA Vectro VT6212 USB 2.0 4-port Host Controller can add USB support to any motherboard, or computer respectively. The controller adds four Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ports to the computer, when it is installed as a card. It has two inbuilt UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface) cores, each supporting two USB 2.0 ports. The ports are compatible with a wide range of USB-enabled devices, including monitors, scanners, keyboards, mice, storage devices, printers, and digital cameras. Besides, all the ports present in the product are backward compatible with devices that support earlier generation USB 1.1 connectivity technology.

The product offers out of the box support for Power Management Interface Specification (for 32-bit PCI-Bus architecture). This comes in handy when the card or chipset is used in laptop computers where extending battery life as much as possible is a prime concern for users. The product can offer solutions in such cases, by supporting power management features built into the Operating System. It may also be configured by OEM or users to automatically power down USB devices when those are left connected, but unattended for extended periods of time. Lastly, backward compatibility with USB 1.1 ensures that devices utilizing that version of USB can also benefit from the power management features of this product.
