The ViewSonic E70 17” monitor uses the Cathode Ray Tube technology, where a vacuum tube that contains an electron gun and a fluorescent screen are put together, with the electron beam from the source (gun) being manipulated (deflection comes into play) in various ways to create images in the form of light given off by the fluorescent screen. It uses a type of glass sheathing that is relatively fragile, which is why the face is made of a much thicker and more robust glass to block the xray emissions and to protect the more fragile parts inside.
