LCD is an acronym for Liquid Crystal Display. It refers to the technology behind these popular flat panel monitors. LCDs are commonly only 1 to 3 inches thick and are relatively light. LCD screens were first used on laptops prior to them being used as desktop monitors. An LCD monitor is made up of five layers - a backlight, a piece of polarized glass, an array of colored pixels, a layer of liquid crystal, and another of polarized glass.
