Windows 7 – A guide to Windows 7 service packs and updates

Windows 7 finds its groove

December 2009:

If someone gave you a copy of Vista for Christmas, you can be pretty certain they don’t like you. Barely two months after its release, Windows 7 has already passed Windows Vista in terms of visitors to Softwarepatch.com. In its entire three year life, Vista never managed to crack the 20% mark and has been in decline since the official release of Windows 7 in October. Windows 7 seems to be gaining ground at equal expense to both Windows XP and Vista. Despite the decline in XP, it still tops the charts at 68%, down from its all-time peak of 84% set in 2007. The Operating System that everyone would rather forget – Vista – is now at 14%, down from its all-time peak of 19% set in July 2009. Windows 7 currently comes in at 15% – an impressive result that took Vista over 2 years to hit.

At this rate we expect Vista to crash into single digits by Easter and Windows 7 to pass Vista’s peak by late February. We’re still not sure why 1% of our visitors are using Macs, despite none of the software on this site being suitable for this OS.

Windows 7 Drivers – download Windows 7 drivers and updates

This section lists popular driver and software updates to download for Windows 7. A lot of older hardware and software was not designed for Windows 7 (or even Vista), so they may require an update or new driver in order to operate correctly on Windows 7. The decision to provide a Windows 7 driver or update will lie with the developer/manufacturer of the product. Feel free to suggest any final (non-beta) Windows 7 driver download that we have missed.
